At the 2025 Napa Institute Summer Conference, JPII Life Center CEO Linda Ruf joined EWTN President Montse Alvarado and BVM Marketing Managing Partner Nathan Misirian for a timely panel discussion titled “Rebuilding Trust in a Distracted Generation.” Together, they explored how digital culture distorts the truth about human dignity, sexuality, and the value of life—and how together we can respond with hope and clarity.
Panelists highlighted the troubling reality that digital platforms often normalize abortion, transgender ideology, same-sex marriage, and pornography through sanitized language, emotional manipulation, and misinformation. Terms like “reproductive rights,” “abortion is healthcare,” and “love is love” disguise the moral weight of decisions involving life—and sometimes death. Fertility is frequently framed as a burden to be controlled, and human worth is presented as conditional—based on convenience, autonomy, or perceived “quality of life.” Moral truths are drowned out by slogans like “my body, my choice,” leading to confusion, fear, and disconnection, especially among youth.
Linda Ruf shared how these digital narratives are not just theoretical—they have real consequences for women. “Many of the women we see at the Center are told that abortion pills are as ‘safe and easy as Tylenol,’” she said. But recent studies from the Ethics and Public Policy Center show that 11% of women taking these pills experience serious adverse effects requiring hospitalization. Women are not being told these facts.
To combat this culture of misinformation, Ruf introduced the JPII Life Center’s newest national initiative, DiscoverLifeMD—a physician-led, evidence-based educational platform designed to teach the science of life, body literacy, and restorative reproductive medicine. Through strategic partnerships with EWTN, BVM Marketing, and other trusted content creators, DiscoverLifeMD is helping to replace harmful digital content with truth-filled, life-affirming education.
Despite the serious challenges, the tone of the panel was one of hope. “Young people crave authenticity,” said Nathan Misirian. “They value justice, and they’re willing to act courageously—if we give them the truth on the platforms they use.”
Montse Alvarado emphasized that media ministries, like the new EWTN Next and EWTN Studios, are uniquely positioned to reach this new tech-savvy generation with beauty, truth, and grace. The panelists agreed: by reclaiming language, rebuilding trust, and presenting the dignity of life with clarity, we can reawaken a culture that recognizes every person as uniquely made in the image and likeness of God.
The JPII Life Center is proud to be part of this mission—restoring truth, renewing trust, and revealing the beauty of life.
